Digital Service CH | Marine Communication & System Integrator
We have been working in the yachting industry for over 10 years, supporting shipyards, captains and yacht managers with new builds, refits and technical upgrades on yachts already in operation.
Our services include GEO and LEO satellite connectivity, Starlink, onboard Wi-Fi networks, data SIM cards, audio-video systems, home automation, system integration and cybersecurity.
Every yacht has different technical requirements. An unstable internet connection, poor Wi-Fi coverage or a system that is difficult to upgrade can cause real problems for the crew and those responsible for managing the yacht.
Working directly on board gives us a clear understanding of these challenges. We know how important it is to find solutions that consider not only the technical requirements, but also the time, costs and daily operation of the yacht.
Before recommending any work, we assess the existing systems and look at how they can be integrated with new technologies. Sometimes a full replacement is necessary, while in other cases the same result can be achieved by keeping much of the existing infrastructure.
A practical example of our work
On a yacht already in operation, the existing VSAT and GSM communication system had become outdated and was integrated with the onboard automation system.
One of the original proposals involved replacing the entire installation, including the automation system, at a significant cost.
We developed a different solution by separating the data network from the existing automation system and installing a new infrastructure compatible with LEO, Starlink and 4G/5G technologies.
This approach allowed the yacht to keep its existing automation system, avoiding unnecessary replacement, reducing costs and limiting operational disruption.
This is how we approach our work. Before replacing a system, we first consider whether it can be upgraded or integrated with new technology. A technical solution must work properly on board, but it must also make financial sense for the owner.
Our involvement in the yachting industry
Digital Service CH is the AssoYacht Point for Switzerland and a partner of the Super Captains Team.
Through these collaborations, we stay in direct contact with captains, yacht managers and other professionals in the yachting industry. These relationships also help us understand how technical and operational needs are changing on board.
Cybersecurity is another important part of our work. Modern yachts rely on an increasing number of connected systems, from satellite communications to onboard automation, and protecting these networks requires specific technical expertise.
